THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET
4-7-2011
Larry Edwards
According to Manager Geronimo Cevallos, the fishing remains very good in the Mazatlan area, both inshore and offshore. He reported the
pargo & snapper bite has been exceptional just 4-5 miles from the
Marina El Cid, fishing in 140-feet of water at the Marmol Banks,
using Rapala X Rap 30s. The fish are chasing sardines and the boats
that get on them typically winding up with 6-7 quality fish in the
15-30 lb. ranges. The inshore fishing for the past week for a total
of 8 days reflected 87 pargo & snappers, 2 corvina, 9 jack cravelle,
(aka toros) 25 barracuda and 15 miscellaneous bottom fish. The
offshore cruisers, reporting for a total of 8 days fished, reflected
6 stripers, 1 dorado and 2 mako shark. The offshore boats are
starting to see more & more billfish and now, with the warming water
temps, Geronimo thinks the fish will become more active and willing
to bite in the near future, especially with the amount of bait in the
area.
