Collins Lake Staff
Little Mica Fish (Junior) lived up word and caught his 1st Collins Lake Trout this week. His cousin Trevor didn't leave empty handed either, he caught 6 Bluegill. Pat Rebello aced their "friends private derby" for the 2nd year in a row with a 4 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow Trout as the biggest!! Pat's favorite troll pattern is directly across the lake trolling Nightcrawlers & Powerbait together. Her friend Beverly Nason & husband Les had a super day catching 7 total and their biggest was 3 lb. 5 oz. Christian Yue of Sacramento found a quiet spot from shore between the launch ramp and Open Area to set up and wasn't there long when he hooked up with a 4 lb. 13 oz. Rainbow on Orange Powerbait.
Rodger Lund escaped the weekend crowd and fished under the bridge from a boat using Powerbait. He caught a Rainbow at 4 Pounds! Don & Dana Feryance caught 10 trout by the bridge on worms & Powerbait. Ryan Kilmurray netted a 3 Pound Trout off the boat dock using Green Powerbait. Jeffrey Miller caught the biggest fish in their group near Water's Edge, it was a 3 lb. 8 oz. Bass.
Richard Plise Jr. fishes mostly in Elmer's Cove and decided to toss out a Pop-R and lucked into a 4 lb. Bass. A Pop-R is a (top water) plug that doesn't sink. Hula Poppers work really well this time of year for Bass and the main reason for that is the bass are shallow and the lake is clear so the fish can see the lure. It is usually tossed from the boat towards the shore, as close as you can get to the shoreline and worked slowly back to the boat. I like top water plugs because you rarely lose your lure since it doesn't have anything to get snagged on when it stays on the surface.
Dave Zaski of Tahoe entered a 7 lb. Catfish in our Collins Lake weekly derby and won for the week, his fish was the biggest on the list and he received a $75.00 check. The more tickets we sell, the bigger the winnings will be so don't be shy just ask anyone at the counter or at the gate to sign you up. If you are camping you buy a $5.00 ticket for each day you want to participate. If you buy a ticket for June 1st and catch a fish on June 2nd you would also need a ticket for June 2nd in order to enter your fish on the list. If you are in for just day use, you would purchase your ticket upon your entry. If you are camping you need to purchase your ticket the day before you plan to fish.
