Lee Refsland entered the Collins Lake Derby each camping day he was here and on the 2nd day he caught a monster Trout that topped the 50/50 Derby List for the week and he won 1/2 the pot. His wife Gerri needs some mention too, she netted it for him!! Bill Thurman pulled in a 6 pounder from the shoreline using Powerbait by the dam. Fred Libby asked questions from other anglers bringing fish out and together with his own knowledge of our lake went out and caught a couple of whoppers. The first week it was a big Catfish and this week it was an 8 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow Trout caught trolling off the beach on a Rapala lure.
One of the happiest campers was Ed Middleton for he caught his Biggest Trout ever on 5/17 while trolling Apex lures by the swimming area @25' down. Ed's big trout weighed 8 lb. 8 oz. His good buddy Les Skelley took out an old friend Ernie Collins (no he isn't related!) and they each limited out on Trout using flashers and worms. Down around the dam Les caught a 6 lb. 4 oz. for the biggest one of the day! Lester Jr. & his son captured 6 trout near the dam on worms.
The Griffin family has been sharing some of their fishing talent with their children and grandson this week with great success! Jack, Bill, & Tim combined efforts for and took out a limit of trout using Powerbait from shore near the dock. Later in the week they fished up in the north end and caught 3 more trout trolling with worms. John Baba limited on trout from shore using Powerbait by the dam on 5/17 and returned on 5/19 with friend Frank D'Aprile and they took 2 more limits of trout out. Jim Kirby's stringer had 5 hefty Rainbows and one chunky Bass on it all of which were caught trolling with Kastmasters with Powerbait on the hook.
Mark Fredrickson and Leslie Gaines are fishing partners who say the Bass fishing these past couple of weeks has been awesome. They mostly use live crawdads and have had no problem catching Bass when they want fish for dinner.
