As promised we received another double plant of trophy Rainbows last week and very few people left without fish. Dean Clark went out in a blaze of glory with a whopping 8 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow caught trolling on an Apex lure under the power lines. In recent days it appears that Powerbait has picked up the pace in the running for the Trout's Favorite Bait!!! Chartreuse is definitely the leading color with Orange running a close second. Shore fishermen are limiting out down in the Open Area along the shoreline closest to the dam or closest to the Water's Edge group camp area. Fred Libby was trolling a Wedding Ring spinner & hooked onto a 7 lb. 4 oz. Catfish. Tom Sahaj of Sacramento picked up a 10 lb. 4 oz. Catfish also trolling a worm near the power lines. It sounds like the Catfish are spawning along with the Bass & Crappie & Redear Sunfish. Anything goes now, you may try for trout but end up with anything but a Trout. You may jig for Bass and pull up a Trout or Cat.
The trout are deeper when trolling this week you'll want to drop down to around 20 feet. Trolling Apex, Cripplures, Rapalas, Needlefish, worms & flashers, etc are all repeat stories we continue to hear all week lone. Larry Martin of Santa Rosa netted a 6 lb. 4 0z. Rainbow on a Rapala. Bob Bumbaca of Boulder Creek & his grandson Blake limited out by noon on Sunday on Blake's 1st camping trip to Collins Lake. Grandpa says he is still talking about his trip and the Waffle Ice Cream Cone he got on the way out!! Emily caught her 1st Fish Ever at Collins Lake this trip with her grandparents.
Bill Price of Concord conquered the Rainbows this week with his smashing 5 lb. 4 oz. beauty using Needlefish for bait. Ann Cantrell topped that with a 4 lb. 12 oz. & a 6 lb. 8 oz. on her first attempt this week after the rains subsided. Ann fished about 15 feet down with her lucky pole (now that's a long story). Ken Borello of their group caught the most fish, 4 total and his largest weighed in at 3 lb. 12 oz. He used Cripplures while trolling near the 5 m.p.h. buoys.
Local residents Tim DeRap & his friend Dennis each limited out this week trolling a Dodger & a Nightcrawler near the dam. John & Frank of Yuba City also limited out on Trout from shore by the dam on Powerbait. Bill & Chris teamed up as well from a boat smack dab in the "middle of the lake" and caught 8 Rainbows on Wedding Ring Spinners or Apex lures. Sue Riordan caught an 8 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow Trout all be herself on an Apex lure trolling close to the beach!!
