Everyone is catching Trout this week, with many limits and at least four huge Trout over 7 Pounds. Butte County's tourney had 19 participants with Mark Jones leading the pack. Russ Graeff from the Bridgeway Men's Group landed a huge Trout that weighed in at 8 lb. 4 oz. caught on a worm. William Jessup University's tournament braved the storm and went on as planned on 4/13 & 4/14. A Junior Fisherman took 1st Place, Alan Emmons, age 14 from Cameron Park. The Bullock Family used Power Eggs from the beach and caught a stringer of 10 Trout. Dom Squadrito and Doug & Rachel Wittler have been slaying the trout all week while camping here. One camper who stands out in the crowd and never lets us down is Dean Clark. He always catches trout and he even "cooks them for everyone"! Dean has been trolling worms and a Sling Blade. Trent Ackerman limited out using Needlefish trolling in the middle of the lake. Jan & Val Valtr had one of their most successfull fishing trips, they left with 7 nice trout this time! Tyler Wilkerson & Brian brought up a huge 7 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow that was caught trolling a Rapala down near the dam. Devin & Alex landed 4 Rainbows from the shore on Powerbait and one had a Green Tag (Value $10). Bob & Gerri Morrison of Clearlake found the Trout Hole near the bridge, limiting out on Powerbait. Jared or Rocklin used a Rainbow colored Rapala and captured a 5 lb. 4 oz. Bow near the dam.
Jer & Abraham shore fished near the dam on Power Eggs and took home 6 nice Rainbows. Dylan Jensen of Vacaville found trolling worked for his Rainbow. Doug Tenbrook trolled a Thomas Buoyant lure for his 7 Pound Rainbow catch! Dave caught an 8 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow today on Powerbait from the shore!
The trout are still pretty shallow, with no need for lead core line or downriggers at this time. Trolling a Sling Blade and a worm or Rapala or lure and very little weight is still the system that is working well. Shore fishermen are primarily using Powerbait or a combination worm and Powerbait.
The reason we are seeing more "limits of trout" in the numbers these past 2 weeks is because all the "raised trout" were let out of their cages on 4/7/07. The ones we raised totalled 400 per cage X 8 cages X 3 to 3-1/2 pounds each. This is equivalent to at least 12 fish plants. Our fish planting schedule of the trophy sized trout has also doubled in size and will continue to double up until we can't plant them anymore (generally the end of May).
