Well just when we all thought spring had sprung, Mother Nature pulled a fast one and brought winter back. Although the Big Bear area did not receive much snow over the weekend cooler temperatures and windy conditions have kept most people away. The forecast calls for better days ahead and that should translate into great Rainbow Trout fishing.
The anglers that did get out between storms were rewarded with nice limits and some hefty holdovers. Reports of two to four pound fish mixed with pound and a half trout made for awesome limits. Good action continues in Trout Triangle bordered by Eagle Pt., the Observatory, and Lagonita Pt.
BIG FISH of the week honors once again go to Bob Miller of Big Bear City. Bob with the help of his fishin' buddy "Muttley" landed a beautiful Big Bear Bow that weighed 7 pounds. Bob was trolling a Rapala on straight mono in the "Trout Triangle".
Lead core line trolled from one to three colors with Luhr Jensen Needlefish and Thomas Buoyants in tow are doing well. A new HOT lure to add to your tackle box is the Helgy!?ĮIt works when nothing else does. If you do not have lead core, trolling straight mono from a spinning reel, with jointed or countdown Rapalas will do just as well.
Shore fishing remains strong as the bigger fish prowl the warmer shallow water in search a snack. Use a sliding egg sinker system and present Eagle Claw Nitro, Power Bait or an inflated night crawler off the bottom for some good action along the shore. The shoreline at Juniper Pt. has produced limits while larger fish have shown west of Windy Pts. Be sure to vary leader length from 1 foot to 4 feet until you find the zone the fish are feeding in.
