Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

8-12-2010
Larry Edwards

About 30% of the sportfishers were returning with sailfish this past week, which is a bit unusual for August. However, like the Fleet Manager, Armando Gutierrez, said, "we'll take it. It sure helps keep up the fishing interest for our area. We saw pretty good fishing this past week that reflected a 15-fish variety in the bags". Our overall catch reports for 24 days fished reflected 7 sailfish, 36 Atlantic barracuda, 3 skip jack, 32 bonito 1 wahoo, 2 dorado, 2 Spanish mackerel, 8 jack cravelle, 1 king mackerel, 3 grouper, 10 triggerfish, 1 snapper, 1 mojarra and 4 miscellaneous.

PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days with some incidental scattered T- storms. Temps from 77 nights to 96 daytime highs and humid.

Sea Conditions: Good, clean water from the entrance to the Marina and outward bound with temps stable at 84 degrees. Very light tropical surface breezes at 5-10 knots.

Best Bait: Continues to be the rigged and un-rigged ballyhoo for this area.

Bait Supply: Through the past 2-3 years, we have yet to have any difficulty providing sufficient baits for the boats from this area.
