Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report

6-24-2010
Larry Edwards

While almost all of the boats are having a daily opportunity at a billfish or two, only about a third of the boats are actually connecting and landing one. The stripers have continued on their "finicky streak" and elected to be difficult to stir them into a bite the bait mode. The combined fish report for a total of 15 days fished reflected 5 stripers released, 1 mako shark, 6 dorado, 2 wahoo, 15 yellowfin tuna and 6 roosterfish (released). The seemingly better fishing area continues to be in the triangle from Santa Maria Bay to Chileno and out to the 95-fathom spot and with most of the fish within a couple miles of the beach.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and hot days with temps ranging from 71 nights to 98 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: A north-south temp break at Cabo Falso with Pacific side temps at 71-72 and 78-79 on the Sea of Cortez side and rising to 82 by Palmilla Ridge.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be close to shore, 2-3 miles off, from Santa Maria Bay to Chileno and out to the 95-Fathom Spot.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait has been best but still very difficult to get the billfish to bite at anything.

Live Bait Supply: Good supply of caballitos.
