Water Conditions
The current flow on the Little Truckee River is approximately 62 CFS. Cold water is currently being released from the bottom of Stampede. With the upcoming cooler weather this week, water temperatures and conditions should be optimal for fishing. Although some sections of the river may have a slight mossy appearance, overall, it is mostly clear. The middle meadow section of the Little Truckee is currently fishing well.
Tips for the Week
Dry fly fishing on the Little Truckee River has been excellent from 10 am to 2 pm. Anglers have had success using PMDs, caddis, and midges. Since stealth is crucial, anglers should use long 12-foot, 5x or 6x leaders for a delicate presentation. It's important to avoid wearing bright clothing and to move slowly in order to deceive these cautious fish. Anglers can also try using hopper droppers with small nymphs or fishing with small nymphs under an indicator in the fast water, both of which have been effective techniques for catching fish.
Suggested Flies
Some fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are Melon Quill size 16, Pale morning Dunn Mole Fly size 18, Pink Cahill size 18, E/C Caddis size 16, and Z-wing Caddis Green size 16.
