Water Conditions

The Truckee River is flowing out of Lake Tahoe at 260 CFS. As it continues towards Truckee, it’s flowing around 256 CFS. These flows allow for easy wading, and the water temperatures are decent due to cooler nights at the moment. In Glenshire, flows are around 320 CFS, and the fishing is great! It's important to check the water temperatures in the afternoons, as the stillwater areas can get warm during the hottest parts of the day. With cooler weather this week, water temperatures are expected to stay consistent for the upcoming week.

Tips for the Week

In the evenings, fishing with dry flies in the Truckee River can be hit or miss right now, as there are lots of fish in the shallows. Anglers will notice caddis and PMDs of various sizes on the surface, depending on the section of the river they are fishing. For the most bites, use a smaller bobber with half a crawler on the back. Additionally, streamers, crayfish, and large stoneflies are starting to emerge and becoming a food source for the fish. As we get closer to fall, big food offerings will likely attract the bigger trout.

Suggested Flies or Lures

Some favorites to try this week on the Truckee River are Crayfish, Sculpins, Worms, Micro Mayflies, Pale Morning Duns, and Caddis.
