Water Conditions

Flows on the Little Truckee River have slowed down a bit and are now averaging around 97 CFS between Stampede and Boca Reservoirs. Water temperatures remaincold, but with the low flows in the afternoon, it’s probably best to give the fish in this fishery a break.

Tips for the Week

Currently, the most effective fishing technique for the Little Truckee River is dry fly fishing. It's best to target the morning and evening periods, as these times are when you're most likely to get bites. During these times, there's a noticeable increase in hatches, making it more likely for the fish to be actively feeding. However, the afternoons tend to be slow, and the fish are not rising to feed as much. To successfully fish the Little Truckee River at this time, anglers should opt for long leaders, light tippet, and small flies to maintain a stealthy approach.

Suggested Flies

Some fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are Elk Hair Caddis Size 18, Parachute Adams Size 18, Juju Baetis Size 18, Zebra Midges Size 20, Pheasant Tail Size 2
