Fish Report for 8-2-2024

Fishing in the Ranch has been tough

Mike Lawson

Fishing in the Ranch the last couple weeks has been tough to say the least. A combination of high-water temps, high flows, and little bug hatches is the perfect equation for slow fishing on this section of river. Your best bet to find fish will be to go early in the morning and later in the evening. In terms of flies, I would have a good mix of smaller terrestrials such as ants and beetles, small rusty spinners, PMD cripples, and caddis flies for the evening. The hoppers have started to jump amongst the sage brush and yellow grass and the fish should be on them as the summer progresses to fall. I would also be on the lookout for tricos and calibaetis if we get some cooler and cloudy weather.
