Nacimiento Lake dropped to 78 percent of its storage capacity, and fishing has been good. Spotted bass responded to finesse tactics with drop shot, shaky heads, and spider jigs taking fish in 5 to 20 feet of water. Aaron’s Magic, motor oil with red flake, and Tequilla Sunrise all took fish. Topwater poppers and walkers worked well at daybreak and again in the evenings. Squarebills and underspins fooled fish as well. White bass chased shad schools in coves, and anglers used topwater, spoons and white swimbaits to hook up. The crappie bite remained solid in 5 to 25 feet of water with minijigs and small live minnows being the baits of choice. Catfish took cut mackerel, dip baits, and garlic scented nightcrawlers.
