Fish Report for 12-15-2023
Fishing has been fair to good depending on the day
12-15-2023
Chad Burton and Chris Borden
The lake level fell to 76 percent of capacity, and water temperatures were in the upper fifties. Fishing has been fair to good depending on the day. Winds continued to be a challenge, but there have been more fishable days lately. Bass anglers reported catching large and smallmouth in 15 to 50 feet of water with drop shot, split shot, Ned rigs, and spoons working to fool fish. Ox Blood, green pumpkin, and bluegill remained the best color choices. Most anglers targeted main lake points, but biting fish also held on submerged humps and rock piles. For those deeper bass vertical spoons, like Kastmasters, blade baits and tail spins, put fish in the boat. Striped bass responded to trolling techniques with flycoring and A-rigs getting bit in 25 to 50 feet of water. Cut baits and lugworms also caught fish in 50 to 90 feet of water near the inlet and Elizabeth Canyon. Catfishing was decent along the dam and in the coves to the east of the marina. Anglers used cut baits and dip baits for bites.
