The surface temps at Pyramid continue to drop

Trout Creek Outfitters

The surface temps at Pyramid continue to drop and its just a matter of time before we begin to see fish caught off the shore with good consistency. As of now, most fly anglers are using float tubes, pontoons or boats to help them find the fish that are still a bit too far and deep to be caught off a ladder or a rock. With the lake flipping last week, we have seen the bait balls of tui chub mostly disperse, causing the trout to do the same. This is where having a fish finder can pay dividends. Jigging large streamers on specialty jig heads is a great way to tempt the cutthroat keyed in on the erratic motion caused by this method, however we are seeing equal amounts of fished caught on flies back kicked on a type 7 sinking line, with the occasional strip or twitch added. We have had a few reports of people capsizing on smaller watercraft as well as getting blown way off shore on windier days, so always check the weather out here before you go and prepare for the worst, while hoping for the best (a 30-pound cutthroat!). We anticipate that the shore fishing should get good as early as November and we’ll be seeing those bobbers dunk before you know it!
