The bill came due for a long stretch of beautiful weather just in time for our travel leg home. In every case we do our best to avoid significant weather. But there are those times when slogging through it is unavoidable. This was one of those times. It is important to state that we are keen on conditions and the capabilities of our beloved Royal Star. When evaluating forecasts and travel routes safety is the foremost consideration. 

Travel conditions during the night and early am were well within the capability of Royal Star. She is designed to safely navigate in such conditions and far worse. On our end vigilance is key. Eyes glued to the ocean, hand on the throttles one makes adjustments to velocity as necessary paying heed to the power behind the occasional larger than average “roller”. Down below the guys watch the machinery close monitoring systems to stay ahead of any developing issues. All in a days work. 

While not fun such conditions present a good reminder that we safely operate in areas far beyond the capabilities of most vessels designed for recreational fishing. Significant others and families that send their loved ones long range fishing can rest assured that our anglers are in good hands. We’re never looking to battle the elements out there but when the inevitable occasionally occurs we execute our responsibility with experienced professionalism and very capable equipment. 

So the night passed into morning and the sea conditions, that were what I would call a couple of notches into the extreme category, abated at the crack of dawn. An hour or two of possible fishing time down the drain because of the inclement weather all settled into the final day of travel grateful to be through the “nautical” zone cruising up the Northern Baja coast. By day’s end a residual swell was the sole reminder of the prior night’s adventure. Prime rib au jus was served to a festive galley of appreciative revelers as highlights of the voyage were recounted and future plans were affirmed.
