Anglers reported another good week of topwater fishing
8-12-2022
Chad Burton and Chris Borden
Castaic Lake held at 34 percent of capacity with water temperatures in the low eighties. Anglers reported another good week of topwater fishing, but it has been hit or miss. Some mornings it’s wide open and on other days anglers reported striking out. Green Pumpkin Senkos, drops shot, and Ned rigs all worked for bites along bluff walls and near the cobbled rock piles. Striper anglers soaked cut baits in 25 to 75 feet of water along the fore bay buoy line for some decent action. The striper also chased shad in shallow water. Lucky anglers were able to fire off some topwater lures at the boils for a lot of smaller striper with a few bigger models mixed in. Catfish anglers soaked chicken liver, mackerel, and dip bait in deeper coves around the lake.
