Fishing Still Going Strong
Fall is here, and it is certainly living up to it's reputation of being the best time of the year to go fishing at the local offshore banks. There is action from the 43, 224, and the 302 areas, but the best action seems to be coming from the Hidden Bank area, below the 371. Limits of yellowfin tuna in the 10-12 pound range have been reported, with the occasional 30 pound fish coming to the gaff. Plenty of dorado and small yellowtail have been holding under the paddies in this area.

The Coronado Islands is the other productive spot, with tons of bonito and some yellowtail. The sea lions are a real problem, so be ready for that frustration if you choose to go.
The OC and LA coast, as well as San Clemente Island all have reported very slow fishing.

Pete and Rick just returned from the Catalina Classic Marlin Tournament. The tournament was a big success, with 29 releases and 9 boated marlin the first day, 19 releases and 5 boated for day two. The winning fish was 212 1/2 pounds caught by Reel Nice and Easy from Oceanside. Needless to say, this is very good marlin fishing, and all the action was just a few miles off the east end of Catalina. If you want to catch a marlin in local waters, this is your shot! Rick was fishing with team La Dulce Vida and Encinitas Ford owner Mark Wheeler and caught and released one marlin on day 1. Pete was at the top of Catalina doing tournament control for both days of the tournament.

This Saturday morning from 7am to 9am Pete Gray and Rock Cod Rick will be at Fuller Ford in Chula Vista- I-805 at Main Street.
