Ixtapa- Zihuatanejo Fish Report- The Independent Sportfishing Fleet

Captain Temo Verbboonen, reporting for the I/Z Fleet, reflected good fishing this week but a serious lack of anglers. The dorado and sailfish are just 2 miles out of the Zihuatanejo Bay entrance and the area offered clean, blue water. The schools of bonito showed up again and the big game fish came with them. Sailfish averaged 80-90 lbs. and the dorado were in the 30 lb. class. The river mouths are all open and running into the ocean making for chocolate water color surrounding the entrances and the roosterfish have moved from these areas into the cleaner, deeper waters. Most of the boats are currently out of the water for their annual maintenance programs during this low angler seasonal time of the year.

I/Z Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps from 72 nights to 93 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Been some rough and bumpy but fishable days with sea temps at 85-86 degrees

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits have been working very well for the billfish and dorado.

Bait Supply: Plenty of bait on a daily basis.
