Chad Burton and Chris Borden
Striper fishing slowed a bit last week, but there was still some solid fish for bait and lure anglers. Bait anglers caught plenty of fish using cut sardines, blood worms, and jumbo live minnows. The bite has been hit or miss, and anglers have had to wait for biting fish or move from control gate to control gate in pursuit of feeding line sides. Lure anglers did the best in the mornings using jerkbaits, small swimbaits, and flukes. One angler reported releasing five fish in an hour using brown tube baits on a heavy jig head. Catfishing was decent for anglers using sardines, anchovies, and dip bait. The catfish bite has been better at night. Bass went for small flukes on the drop shot and Senkos.
