Lets Talk Hook-up

Pete Gray
Fishing for the San Diego Sportfishing fleet became very slow this week. Strong offshore winds made it tough to get on the huge albacore schools that were being targeted, but some boats were able to put together a good score. As the winds lay down towards the latter part of the week, it looks like better fishing is ahead of us. As we head into the weekend and the dark of the moon, look for offshore fishing to bounce back. Along the beach, the great white sea bass fishing slowed down, but there are still a few trophies to target. Sandbass and some barracuda started to bite up and down the south coast.
Pete Gray and Steve Pinard from Dana Landing in Mission Bay just returned from three days fishing with Captain Steve Lasley in Kona, Hawaii aboard Bad Company. It was incredible experience fishing with what many consider to be the finest marlin Captain in the west. Fishing in Kona was slow, but in three days of fishing we managed two marlin, one wahoo and a short billed spearfish. We did have a 700 plus pound blue marlin come up on our jigs, but did not bite. Fishing the flat calm waters in Kona is amazing- at any time the fish of a lifetime could be hooked. Pete if off tomorrow for Palmas de Cortez and the Dorado Shootout. We will have live reports all weekend from the local action, as well as from the big tournament.
Saturday Rock Cod Rick will be in the XX studio with Steve Pinard and John White from Dana Landing. Steve will share the thrill of fishing with Steve Lasley in Kona, and have a ton of information for the local and long range angler. John White is a wealth of knowledge on bay fishing and the local bite in La Jolla, as well as a tackle wizard. Sunday Pete Gray will broadcast live from Palmas de Cortez in Baja's east cape to report all the hot action from the Dorado Shootout. Kit McNear, Bobby and Chucky VanWormer and more will be on hand to talk about all the prime summer action in the east cape. It will be a great weekend to tune into Let's Talk Hook-up Saturday and Sunday- 7am to 9am on XX 1090AM or listen live on line at www.hookup1090.com. You can also listen to our archives from previous shows on our archives page.
