The Upper Deschutes offers good fishing opportunities right now. Brook trout are getting ready for spawning so they’ll be in the system. There have been some decent pale morning dun hatches mixed with some caddis. Cooler and darker days are great for blue wing olives. Hoppers and other terrestrials will be good up there until it starts to get below freezing overnight. 

Nymphing has been productive, mainly with small mayfly patterns. Midges and caddis pupa are also good choices as well. Jigged euro nymphs are great, especially when you’re trying to maneuver through log jams. Small weighted streamers are great when you’re looking for a big fish, cover lots of water and drift the fly near structure. The Upper closes in three weeks, don’t miss your opportunity for a trophy brook trout.
