Crane Prairie Has Had Decent Action
9-3-2021
Fly and Field Outfitters
Crane Prairie has had decent action. There have been some cold nights lately that have helped to cool the waters down. Expect most of the fish to be located around the channels. Algae is still present in some areas but it’s not hard to work around. We’ve been seeing decent hatches of callibaetis, mainly smaller ones. Terrestrials can still receive some attention. Now that temperatures are falling, midge hatches can be productive, mainly subsurface. Chironomid and balanced leech rigs are doing well, size 16, 18 or even 20 callibaetis nymphs can produce as well. Make sure your nymphs are getting down close to the bottom. Stripping leeches has been getting some attention. The reservoir is around 60% full at the moment so you may not need to get as deep as usual. The forecast shows that there may be some rain on the way which would really help get rid of the algae and warm water for the rest of the season.
