The Fall River has been fishing well

The Fall River has been fishing well. It has been a while since ODFW has stocked the stream, the fish that are in there now have seen lots of different flies and may be hard to fool. Dry fly action is sporadic, when you see a fish keying into surface bugs try to work that specific fish. Pale morning duns, caddis, and a few blue wing olive hatches have been popping off. Most PMDs have been size 16 - 18 and caddis range from size 14 - 20. Nymphing is best with the small flies, anything smaller than size 16 has potential; however, size 20 - 22 is what the fish are typically keyed into. Midges and small mayfly nymphs get the job done. Euro flies and euro techniques always have potential and can often outfish most other tactics. As always, when nothing seems to work throw some streamers around, even big ones have potential. With the weather beginning to cool down, we can expect the crowds to subside and the fish will likely be a bit easier to fool.
