Fishing at East Lake has been great. The recent dip in temperatures has helped to lower water temperatures; however, water levels are still low and launching boats can be very difficult or impossible. Dry fly action has been really decent especially later in the day. Callibaetis hatches have been good and terrestrials have also been getting attention. If you’re fishing a large buoyant terrestrial I would be dropping a callibaetis nymph off the back with about 2-3 feet of tippet. Nymphing has been productive, both in the shallow and deep waters. Callibaetis and damsel nymphs tend to be the top performers in shallow places. In deep areas, balanced leeches and chironomids tend to get the job done. Dark assassins seem to work well just about anywhere. Cooler weather can get browns more excited to take streamers. As we move into fall streamers will perform better and better. Now is a perfect time to head to East Lake, with cool water, good hatches, and excellent fishing weather.
