Catching a few more to lock in the RSW tanks in preparation for our eventual move across our quantity goal was accomplished. As difficult as it is to leave biting, beautiful grade 80 - 130 pound yellowfin behind it was time. No reason to be a rabid weasel in the henhouse; variety beckoned elsewhere. That said the remainder of the day, though magnificent from a scenic perspective, was pretty damn flat in the way of catching. Plenty of windy zones with poor conditions and little sign of fish made up the bulk of the effort. And, as is so often the case at this island, one almost can’t believe those results based on the structure and potential. But it is, it was, true.
Sign encouraging for upcoming voyages was discovered. That alone was worth the prospecting tour. But the lack of production definitely stood in stark contrast to the prior three and one half days of catching while anchored on one spot. A lot of sweet memories fresh in mind, and two brimming full RSW tanks of the most premium yellowfin tuna one can imagine, assuaged any concerns however. The afternoon passed in fine style all smiles.
Taking our fine fortune on tuna as a prompt to expand the variety list we opted to move on at day’s end. Prepared to take a few lumps on the way east the forecast suggests that whatever discomfort we endure will be short lived. Coastal variety will be the objective tomorrow with the majority focus on yellowtail. Photo today features long time Royal Star friend and angler Craig Walker appreciative of the whole moment; a blessing to be sure.
