Lake Pardee Fish Report

6-26-2009
Fred Dorman

Temperatures in the mid 80's today, forecast calls for much of the same during the weekend and throughout next week. Water temperatures are currently 62 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 65 degrees at surface in the Marina. Water visibility is still clear to 18 feet. Water level is unchanged and remains within a foot or two of spill and steady.

BANK FISHING ---- The Marina reports that the Woodpile was the hot spot last week. Early morning has been the best. The warmer weather has discouraged some but the dedicated and determined bank anglers still dot the shore. This morning there were folks at Rainbow Point, Stony Point landing, Jackson Creek spillway, and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Using clear bobbers with power bait suspended 3 to 6 feet below continues to be successful while others continue to use the sliding sinker setup. Silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular. Chartreuse power bait with sparkles is also very effective.

TROLLERS----Trolling has remains good again this week, The Marina reports most regulars return with mixed limits and are back in by early afternoon. Saw boats working the Narrows, Mel's cove, Bernice's cove and area right in front of the Rock Wall about 500 yards inside the river Mouth. Trout have remained at 20 to 40 feet but the Kokanee are deeper still at 50 to 70 feet. Trollers have reported that the Kokanee are a bit larger lately and a bit more plentiful. Equipment and bait the same, orange hoochies, bugs, sling blades or flashers tipped with a partial night crawler, small spoons or spinners, Uncle Larry's copper popper, pinkie or tiger behind a smaller Sep's silver, watermelon or silver/green dodger.

CATFISH----Cats continue to bite all along the eastern shore of the Lake. Smelly Chicken livers are the hands down favorite.

RECENT SUCCESS STORIES-Pictured here is Mary a long time Pardee resident with a 7.5 lb catfish she bagged trolling in the main body of the Lake. The Stevens family of San Francisco, Desiree, Michael, Paul, Brandon, Brian and Sophie landed a total of 8 bass (2 smallies and 6 largemouths). The largest 7.54 lbs was landed by Brian. Last but not least is Lou Carsner's grandson (name not supplied) who is apparently following in grandpa's footsteps and becoming a catfish specialist. Well done-congratulations to all!

To date 59,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with another plant scheduled for the near future.
