Jess Ranch Lake Fish Report

6-7-2009
Jess Ranch Lakes Staff

The lakes are in good shape after the crew treated the algae bloom with a biological control. We also raised the water levels and the flow, so we're ready for some great summer fishing!

Despite rain, wind, thunder and lightning, anglers enjoyed good trout action on both lakes with Power Bait (especially rainbow, chartreuse, salmon peach and garlic), night crawlers, jigs and lures all catching limits. Most trout were near or over two pounds. Hot spots included the eastern logged shore and the western shore of lake 3 as well as the northern, eastern and western shores of lake 3. Catfish on starting to really come on. They're hitting pretty much everything-- Power Bait, night crawlers, shrimp, and even jigs. Most are in the 2 to 3 pound range. Hot spots included the eastern and western shore of lake 3 and the eastern and southern shores of lake 2. Bass action is good with anglers reporting fish up to 4 lbs on senkos and drop shot. Hot spots included the western shore near the pump house and northern shore of lake 3 as well as the south eastern and western shores of lake 2. Bluegill are hitting small jigs and meal worms with fish up to 2 lbs. Hot spots include the western shore near the pump house and the eastern shore of lake 3 and the southern shore of lake 2 near the wall of lake 2.

Catches of the Week: Roland Garcia of West Covina caught his limit that included a 4 lbs 4 ozs rainbow. He used rainbow Power Bait and fished the north shore of lake 2 near the inlets and the reeds on the western shore of lake 3. Vacaville angler, Alan Smith, who came fishing with his friend Carlos Vidaurri of Lucerne Valley, scored a 3 lbs 14 ozs rainbow on chartreuse Power Bait while fishing the western shore of lake 3 near the drain. Matt Lyons of Fontana scored a 4 lbs 2 ozs rainbow using a black crappie jig from the eastern shore of lake 3. Steve Wheaton of Corona reeled a 3 lbs 15 ozs trout using an orange Power Worm from the southeastern shore of lake 2. Lancaster angler, Paul Theissen, caught a 4 lbs 3 ozs rainbow using a Power Mouse (Power Worm/Bait combo) on the grassy point of lake 3.

The Lakes' Hatchery stocks trout every Friday year round. We will also stock 1000 pounds of catfish every Thursday throughout the summer.

This year the Lakes' hatchery is amping up the weekly trout stockings with bigger fish overall.
