Lake Pardee Fish Report

Look for clear blue skies, gentle breezes and surface temperatures in the mid 80s again this weekend. There is a chance of isolated thunder showers this evening and possibly again mid week. Water temperatures inched up a little this week to 67 degrees at surface and 62 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility degraded a little and is presently good to 15 feet. The Lake is full to the brim and continues to spill.

BANK FISHING ---- Shore anglers were scarce this morning but reports indicate folks continue to do well from the bank. The most popular spots continue to be Tom Sawyer Island (particularly under the foot bridge), the Launch Ramp, Jackson Creek spillway, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. The Marina staff reports many anglers are using bobbers with 3 to 6 feet of line below with great success. Silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.

TROLLERS----Trolling holding its own again this week. Boats were working the River Mouth, the face of the Dam, up river as far as Columbia and some were running the barrel line in the South End. Trout have remained at 20 to 30 feet but the Kokanee are deeper still at 40 to 60 feet. The Kokanee have been plentiful, most are in the 8" to 11" range with a few larger to 15 inches. Equipment and bait the same, orange hoochies, bugs, sling blades or flashers tipped with a partial night crawler, small spoons or spinners, Uncle Larry's copper popper, pinkie or tiger behind a smaller Sep's silver, watermelon or silver/green dodger.

UP COMING EVENTS---- The annual Kids Tank Derby will be held next Saturday June 6th from 8AM to 12PM at the tanks in the main parking lot. No state license or fishing permit required for Kids 2 to 15 years of age. All fishing equipment will be provided-lots of prizes and a hot dog lunch available directly afterward for $3.00. No charge to participate in the Derby; however, there is an $8.00 day use pass required for Park entry.

CATFISH----Catfish are active in most coves along the eastern side of the Lake. Stinky chicken liver and Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage are usually very successful.

RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Pictured here is Richard Cooper, Pardee Lake concessionaire with some nice largemouth caught here during the week. The location, weight and method are unknown but swim baits were used. Jeff O'Dell of Stockton got this nice 6.5 lb Rainbow at Mistletoe using power bait. Congratulations to all-well done!

To date 54,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with another plant of scheduled for the near future.
