Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

5-28-2009
Larry Edwards

The dorado bite has returned and the fish bit three consecutive days this past week which may indicate a sustained bite has finally developed in the area of the shark buoys. It had started a couple weeks ago and fizzled the next day but this time, it appears to be substantial and for those boats that fished the buoys, it was easy limit fishing with lots of releases. Overall fish counts for two offshore fishing days reflected 1 striper, 1 sailfish and 14 dorado. The inshore counts reflected 1 pargo, 1 sierra and limits of dorado for 6 inshore days and numerous releases. This would be a fly fishing dream or something uniquely special for the light tackle enthusiast. It's fast, all-day action at it's finest.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 68 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with light tropical surface breezes, temps from 80 inshore to 82 offshore.

Best Lure/Bait: The billfish were taken on rigged baits. Dorado have been eager on everything that wiggles, from strip baits, live baits, artificials and an occasional fish on a bare hook.

Best Fishing Area: The focus has been on the shark buoys for the dorado.
