Cabo San Lucas Fish Report- The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet and The Fish Cabo Fleet

5-21-2009
Larry Edwards

Another very slow week for charters, but a noticeable change in the telephone calls this week. Seems as the interest is gaining momentum, again. Right now, the boats are running about 10% of the time from Cabo. The overall fish counts for 10 days of fishing reflected 16 stripers, (12 released) and 7 dorado, with all fishing out toward the 95 and into the Sea of Cortez.

Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 70 nights to 96 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Generally, calm. Very light surface breezes on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo. Temps cool on the Pacific, at 72 on the Jaime Bank. Rising to 76-80 from the 95 fathom spot and on out to the Cabrillo Sea Mount.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish are coming from the 95 fathom spot and northerly to the 1150, but no real concentration.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait has been best for our boats, with an occasional fish on the artificials.

Live Bait Supply: Remains good, especially for the caballitos.
