PUERTO MORELOS FISH REPORT - MARINA EL CID, CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA

4-30-2009
Larry Edwards

The longer fishing days, (6-8-hour days) are producing sailfish for the groups but the sea conditions have been less than comfortable on some of the days. There were several days of port closures that kept the boats at the Marina and disappointed those that had wished to fish. Overall, the fishing has been pretty darned good on the days that were fished and this report encompasses a total of 9 fishing days for the week that reflected 6 sailfish, 13 dorado, 3 red snapper, 2 yellowfin tuna, 1 barracuda and 1 grouper.

PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps at 75 nights and rising to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Some rougher days with stronger than normal easterly winds that kept the port closed. Temps are holding at 80 degrees and the days fished saw the winds diminished to tropical surface breezes of 8-14 knots of easterly surface breezes.

Best Bait/Lure: Continues to be the rigged ballyhoo for all of the surface fish and rigged and weighted ballyoo for the bottom fish.

Bait Supply: There is almost never a lack of bait for this particular area.
