Like a “thief in the night” we escaped ahead of the Emperor's latest order heading south shortly after dawn. Alive, free, and exercising the “individual pursuit of happiness” this fantastic group of 18 seasoned anglers are ready to unwind and safely spend invaluable time among friends old and new. As are we. In sublime conditions - absolute greasy flat calm, we freight a perfect load of sardines and abundant enthusiasm for time at sea and fishing opportunities ahead. Ultimately focused on trophy yellowfin below we will dedicate at least some time targeting ridge classics as we work our way south over the next few days.

While conditions of late have turned against those wily wahoo one never knows at this time of the year when a pack of them will roll through. Too late in the season? The exact opposite is true. On more than one voyage in December's past we have clobbered the elusive speedsters. We’ll see how this one goes.

Ample time to decompress and prepare our equipment assures that one and all will be fully prepared come go time. Meanwhile we’ll be keeping a sharp eye out for signs of bluefin and other pelagics while heading south tomorrow and beyond.

Photo today features Royal Star veteran Phil Hashimoto with his 278 pound bluefin landed in September as we hauled it through the gate. Joining us again on this voyage Phil’s quest now shifts to yellowfin tuna of equal or greater proportion. Let’s go!
