Great Place to Be This Time of Year

The Lower Deschutes is a great place to be this time of year. The colder weather will keep the crowds at bay and the fishing has been very productive. The white fish are spawning and will be dropping eggs for the next couple weeks. Rainbows and Steelhead will sit in tail outs waiting for an easy meal to drift by, eating eggs and anything else that might be swept into the current by the spawning White Fish. Most of the fishing from now til spring will be under an indicator or tight line nymphs under the surface. We do expect to see BWO’s on some of the warmer days but its never something to bet on. The Trout are in there winter spots, slow water and easy swimming to conserve energy in the slower, colder winter months. The Steelhead fishing has been consistent, the few fish we are getting are quality fish with big motors and tall shoulders. Swinging and nymphing has been getting it done above the white river. The white is not in great shape and has been coloring up the Deschutes for the past couple of weeks, I would stay above shears and be swinging some bigger flies near the bottom if I was going out there. Give the shop a call be for you head down there for the latest up to date info!
