Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet
4-16-2009
Larry Edwards
The billfish catch ratio has increased to nearly a 1 fish per boat
average, but not many boats are going. The overal offshore reportt
for 10 days fished reflected 5 stripers, 4 sailfish, 3 dorado and 3
yellowfin tuna. The inshore action continues to provide the variety
catches that included 135 pargo, 4 cabrilla, 6 vaquetas, 8 barracuda,
70 loras and 20 cochitos for 8 inshore super panga fishing days.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days, temps from 57 nights
to upper 80s during the days.
Sea Conditions: The inshore waters are down to about 70 degrees and
rises to 75 in the offshore waters at about 18 miles or so.
Generally, calm throughout the week with a single bad day during the
early week that closed the port.
Best Fishing Area: The boats are still fishing far and wide as there
hasn't been any real concentration of billfish, but most have been
out to the southwest of the Marina in the 20-30 miles ranges.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged trolling baits best for the billfish.
