Lake Pardee Fish Report
3-13-2009
Fred Dorman
Bank fishing remains good, clear skies and mild temperatures are forecast to last at least until the middle of next week.
The extended forecast calls for another week without rain. Look for clear blue skies with cool temperatures in the 60's. Water temperatures have decreased a little, 52 degrees at surface and 46 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility remains clear to 13 feet with no debris visible. Lake water level has remained the same as last report and stands at 4 to 6 feet above spill and stable.
BANK FISHING ---- Blue skies and warming temperatures continue to attract a fair number of bank anglers throughout the week. Fishing continues to be good from the shore but slows toward the end of the week right before the next plant. The popular spots continue to be Tom Sawyer Island, the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Sliding sinker set ups are widely used, however silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs and power worms are the hot ticket this week again according to the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.
TROLLERS----Trolling has been tough this week according to the folks I spoke to. They are still catching fish but working hard for the ones landed. Most are heading upstream and working the areas from Twin Coves to Columbia. Saw a couple of boats working the Narrows and Mel's Cove. The fish are still shallow; don't go too deep most hookups are at 5 to 15 feet. Night crawlers behind small flashers or dodgers on down riggers or behind 3 to 5 colors of lead core have been the most successful. Some Trollers have been tying off and still fishing in the coves along the eastern shore and upstream and getting limits that way until trolling improves.
RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Bonnie Robinson (a long time Pardee regular and avid angler) of Modesto got this beautiful 4.65 lb Rainbow using night crawlers off Rainbow Point. Keith Melendes of Pioneer got these two huge German Browns, 12 lb and 5.50 lb trolling night crawlers in the Main body of the Lake. Well done-Congratulations to all!
To date 31,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with more plants scheduled in the near future.
