Lake Pardee Fish Report
3-6-2009
Fred Dorman
The extended forecast predicts no rain through the middle of next week. Look for partially cloudy skies with mild temperatures in the 60's. Water temperatures have remained constant at the Marina, 57 degrees at surface and 48 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility remains clear to 16 feet with no debris visible. Recent storms and slowed release at the Dam brought the water level up at least 2 feet to within 4-5 foot below spill and rising.
BANK FISHING ---- Blue skies and warming temperatures have brought lots of bank anglers back to the Recreation Area this week. Fishing continues to be good from the shore but has slowed a bit since the last plant. The popular spots are Tom Sawyer Island, the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Sliding sinker set ups are widely used however silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs and power worms are the hot ticket this week again according to the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.
TROLLERS----Lots of trailers in the parking lot today so the Trollers are back, rain and wind have kept them off the Lake earlier this week. Saw a couple of boats working the Narrows the rest must be upstream. No real hot spots to report most are starting at the Rock Wall and working the coves all the way to Indian Rock. Don't go too deep most hookups are at 5 to 15 feet. Night crawlers behind small flashers on down riggers or behind 3 to 5 colors of lead core have been the weapons of choice. Rumors of a nice German Brown caught last week but no hard evidence available. They're lurking out there usually around the Rock wall and Dear Island. They like broken back Rapala rainbow minnows and night crawlers.
RECENT SUCCESS STRORIES--- George Perez of San Jose landed this 5.13 lb Rainbow with white power eggs in the Marina Area. Ben Sakakihara of Sacramento got his big old Rainbow fishing off of Rainbow Point using white power bait. Good Job-Congratulations to all!
To date 29,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with more plants scheduled in the near future.
