Lake Pardee Fish Report
2-27-2009
Fred Dorman
Clear skies today and Saturday but beyond the forecast calls for partially cloudy skies and 50 degree temps for the next five days. Water temperatures measured about the same as last report at the Marina, 57 degrees at surface and 48 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility improved appreciably and is now clear to 16 feet with no debris visible. Lake level came up about a foot and is currently 14 feet below spill and creeping up.
BANK FISHING ---- Fishing continues to be very good from the shore. This time of year the planters travel in schools all around the bank and take a long time to finally find their way to the Lake proper. There were anglers doing well behind Tom Sawyer Island this morning, at the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Sliding sinker set ups are the most successful but some good fish were taken on silver/blue Kastmasters. White power eggs and power worms are the hot ticket this week again according to the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.
TROLLERS----Most boaters are in the Mouth or upriver, not a single boat visible when you come across the Dam on the way in. No real hot spots to report most are starting at the Rock Wall and working the coves all the way to Indian Rock. Don't go too deep most hookups are at 5 to 15 feet. Night crawlers behind small flashers on down riggers or behind 3 to 5 colors of lead core have been the weapons of choice. No reports of German Browns caught this week but they are lurking out there, usually around the Rock wall and Dear Island. They like broken back Rapala rainbow minnows and night crawlers. .
RECENT SUCCESS STRORIES---Jim Henke of Galt got this 4 lb Trout at Rainbow Point using worms. Charlie of Sacramento also landed this Rainbow at the same location with yellow Power Bait. Ramon Hertado of Modesto got the biggest lunker this week, a 7 lb beauty on the Launch Ramp with Power Bait. Good Job-Congratulations to all!
To date 27,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with more plants scheduled in the near future.
