On the chin

We took it on the chin today looking at small dabs of not biting bastards all day long. On the positive side the weather was nice and our exclusive group of seasoned anglers took the drubbing in stride. It’s never the result any of us want. But these days are a part of the program inevitable for those plying the oceans. So we licked our wounds as night fell and then, by the grace of the fish gods, ended the day on the right note. One bluefin tuna, of the thousands and thousands seen, made the ultimate sacrifice. As I have noted many times success is always relative. One is better than none.

We lay in for one final night before the official launch of the Royal Star 2020 season Thursday with a kick off “mini” long range 1.5 day sponsored by Island Tackle. As so often happens at this time of the year our colleagues heading down bump into new lines of fish and prospects farther down the line. Reports from the southern reaches indicate that not only are there abundant bluefin in lower zones but yellowfin, dorado, and yellowtail too. Excitement about the 2020 summer prospects continues to mount. There is going to be some very good local tuna fishing again this season. Mark my words.

I will update again tomorrow with some more information regarding our new onboard routine and pre voyage policies. Enjoy today’s image featuring Royal Star angler Ross Retmier and his magazine cover quality bluefin tuna landed two days prior.
