Lake Cuyamaca Fish Report

12-21-2008
Lake Cuyamaca

Holiday Greetings from Lake Cuyamaca: Mother Nature provided rain and snow during the week so the anglers seemed to be staying indoors. Those who braved the elements had little success. Trout inventory is large in numbers and quality of fish. These Jess Ranch trout are outstanding with full tails and fins, great taste, plus an attitude for the fight.

!!!! WINTER HOURS STARTING DECEMBER 1, 2008-JANUARY 31, 2009 !!!!
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8AM-4PM Saturday 6AM-4:30PM.
SUNDAY 10:00 A.M.- 4:30PM!! Wednesday LAKE is CLOSED !!

Trout Bait: 16-20"inch leader, night crawler smeared with scent fished below a bobber, or Rainbow Power Bait fished off the bottom. (Pautzkes Krill gel or liquid Krill scent)

Best Trout Lures: Orange Rapala, Yellow Roster Tail, Gold Panther Martin. Use scent (Krill gel works best)

Best Trout Spots: Lone Pine, Dike, Chambers Park, Trolling entire lake.

Notable: Mother Nature, Julian, 14 inches of Snow, and 4.5 inches of rain.

Fly Fishing: Try a Matuka or a Wolly Bugger worked slow on the fall.

Nature Walk: The self guided walk is 3 1/2 miles around the lake. The trail is open for daily use.

Free Fishing Class Saturday at 10AM Ranger Willard will teach cold water Trout tactics ..

Prognosis:!! With a week of stormy weather in the forecast: bait dunking will be the best way to catch some trout, use scent and keep it moving. Trolling Orange and Fire tiger Rapalas should provide some results if not try a Panther Martin yellow/ red dots. This cold weather will either ignite the bite or shut it down?? Going to be cold all week so bring warm clothes and a bait warmer ! Come up and enjoy a "White Christmas" day in the snow.

Water Fowl results: (1) Mallard (1) Green wing Teal,(2) Redheads,

THE DECONTAMINATION WASH DOWN IS NOW OPERATIONAL PRIVATE VESSELS ALLOWED AFTER WASH DOWN! A fee is charged. (boats, motors, float tubs, waders) More details under boat wash down.

Johnny Rodriques landed a 11?? pound trout (June 2, 2008) on rainbow power bait Pumphouse Cove
