Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet
12-25-2008
Larry Edwards
While the billfish action has been pretty good, (about 75% of the
boats landing a billfish) the inshore sierra fishing has been
exceptional and easy limit fishing is the daily rule of thumb. The overall combined catches for 33 days fished offshore reflected 1 blue
marlin, 8 stripers, 16 sailfish, 31 dorado, 7 yellowfin tuna, 1 mako
shark and 6 jack cravelle. The inshore super pangas reporting for 10
fishing days reflected limit fishing on the sierra with many
releases, 9 pargo, 8 cochitos and 11 jack cravelle.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days with temps from 55
nights to 84 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Excellent, inshore waters at 76 degrees and rising
to 79 for the offshore waters. Very little swell and light surface
breezes.
Best Fishing Area: The offshore fishing is stretching from the southwest to the west of the Marina El Cid, from about 20 miles and
farther.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits working best for the billfish and dorado.
