TROUT: This has been a very good week for fishermen at Lake Camanche, for many types of fish. Locals Truman Moss and Jim Rudolph, from Camanche, caught 6 trout with a total weight of 21 pounds, with a lunker that weighed 7.25 pounds. They were fishing with Power Bait, in about 20 feet of water, near the dam. Two brothers from Grass Valley; one 90 years old and one 84 years old, caught 2 limits of trout while trolling orange grubs on Thursday. They were top lining in the area around Hat Island, out to the dam. Several of their fish were 4-5 pounds.
Two local men fished at Dike 3 for trout on Thursday. They had a contest matching Power Bait against Yum's new Troutkrilla paste bait and pellets. Yum's Troutkrilla caught 4 fish to 2 1/2 pounds, and Power Bait caught 3 fish up to 3 pounds. All the fish were caught between 25-35 feet deep.Yum's Troutkrilla is available at North and South marina stores.
There were reports from shore fishermen of limits of trout caught early in the day at North Shore Day Use Point. Power Bait, Power Eggs, and nightcrawlers with a scented marshmallow combo were working well. Few reports were received from the South Shore Pond this week, but some limits were reported to South Shore marina. Power Bait and Troutkrilla were mentioned, as well as Kastmasters, and Cripplures.
This week's trout plant from Mt. Lassen hatchery will be 1,200 pounds of fish, and will be planted at Nouth Shore.
BASS: Bass fishing this week has been RED HOT due to the rise in water temperature. Bass are now in 10-15 feet of water, and are active along the shoreline all over the lake. Mike Bush, from West Sacramento, brought his Dad, Robert Mochel, for dad's first bass fishing trip ever. They caught 10 bass in 1 1/2 hours, from shore near the docks at North Shore. They were using plastic worms in Morning Dawn, and purple/green tip.
Steve Berkje, from Danville, rented a boat at North Shore and caught and released 7 bass up to 3.5 pounds. He was using green tube baits, and fishing in 10-15 feet of water, near the dikes at the dam. Numerous other anglers reported catching multiple limits of bass all around the lake on plastic worms, Baby Brush Hogs, dark jigs, and nightcrawlers.
CRAPPIE: NEW Lake Record - The crappie bite has gotten very good this week. The Lake Camanche record crappie was caught Sunday by Aaron Barnhart, from Elk Grove. He caught a 3.04 pound female crappie on a red crappie jig, brought it to the marina to weigh and photograph, and then he took it back to the spot he caught it, and released it back to it's home. He also caught about 12 more crappie in the 1 ??-2 pound range. We urge all anglers to practice catch and release methods.
We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to either North Shore Store, South Shore Store, or to us by email at eporray@camancherecreation.com. Thanks again for choosing Lake Camanche for your recreation destination.
