Los Vaqueros produces Lake Record Striped Bass

3-21-2007

GENERAL CONDITIONS: Here's more information on the 25.15 pound striper ??? the largest fish ever landed at LV -- caught on March 13 by John Howard of Martinez at Oak Point Pier.

John spent about 45 minutes bringing him ashore. Once ashore John looked like he had just run five miles. What a fish, beautiful lines with a huge gaping mouth. When John cleaned it, the gut was completely empty; all 25 pounds-plus was all fish. Very nice fillets came off that one. John was using Storm bait and dragging it along the bottom.

For the rest of the week, largemouth bass, catfish and -- of course-- trout were very active. Largemouths have been very active in and around the Rock Wall and the fishing piers. Swim bait has been your best bet for these guys. A very nice 19.39 pound catfish was brought in from a boat near the dam using a 4" Rebel lure.

Our annual Trout Derby starts April 13th and runs through May 20th. We'll let you know when we get the derby tickets. The cost is $3 and the funds go to the American Cancer Society, a great cause with nice prizes for the top three places.

Come into the marina and take advantage of our 2 for 1 sale on Berkley Power Bait 1.45oz. and Eagle Claw #10 hooks.
The water temperature has hovered around 65 degrees this week.

HOURS: Marina is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All rental boats must be back at the marina by 4:30 p.m. Watershed gates close at 6 p.m. seven days a week. On April 1, our long summer hours begin.

PLANTS: Calaveras Trout Farm planted Saturday, March 17th, - 5,000 pounds of trout into the South Cove.

BASS: Don Govan of Oakland brought in three very respectable large mouths from the ADA pier, the largest weighing in at 6.76 lbs. He was using swim bait.

CATFISH: The warm spell this week brought out a very nice 19.39 pound cat from the dam area on a 4" Rebel lure. Nice job Norm Higashi from Livermore, he was in a boat.

SALMON: This week the salmon were quiet.

BE SURE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY BOAT RENTAL SPECIAL - 50% OFF YOUR RENTAL FEE AT THE LOS VAQUEROS WATERSHED !!
