Lower Deschutes River Fishing Report

11-15-2019
Fly and Field Outfitters

I have been seeing and hearing about some nice fish being caught on the Lower, with some bigger fish showing up later in the run there are good opportunities and decent number still in the river. Nymphing and swinging have been good bets and fish are being caught on both techniques recently. Some favorite bugs for us down there are the hot double bead stone and Hickman’s fish taco. Steelhead will spend the winter in the river and spawn in the spring, returning to the ocean after that to do it all again, the fish are spread out and fishing can be good from well below Maupin all the way to Warm Springs.

Trout fishing has been pretty standard with no big surprises. Eggs are on the menu and the trout are looking for them. The kings are spawning and dying and trout will stack behind reds and eat eggs all day. Fish a bigger mayfly pattern or a small stonefly with an egg behind it, either under an indicator or on a tigh line presentation.

Suggested Flies: Glo Bug #12-16, Jimmy Legs #12-6, Double bead stonefly #4-12, Greenie #10, Copper Swan red #10, Hobo Spey, Mini Extractor, GBS, Macks Canyon.
