Surface water temperature: 61-63 degrees
Fish Plants: DVL will stock trout Christmas week..
Lake Hours: 6:45am to 4:00pm
Weather: The weather has been moderate. 40's in the morning and up to the 70's in the afternoon.
It has been becoming increasingly hard to catch bass at DVL due to decreasing surface temperature, but there were some great bass in the double digits this week. Bass have been caught as deep as 50 feet on underspins, ice jigs, and shaker heads. Jennifer Bigney of San Jacinto caught a 4.5 pound largemouth and a 3 pound small mouth fishing with shad flukes and shaker heads. Phantom 34 caught some nice largemouth on a custom lure called a Congo Punker his biggest was 8 pounds. Kewlwhip brought his nephew Joshua to DVL and got him hooked up a 5.9 and 5.7 pound largemouth trolling Rapala's.
Trout
There have been few complaints from trout fisherman at DVL. Whether they were fishing from shore or boat, trout anglers have been satisfied. Powerworms. Nightcrawlers, Powerbait, and mini jigs have been the most reported trout baits. Sam Hsu got a 3 pound holdover trout fishing from shore with a green Powerworm. Louie Vega of Hemet got the biggest trout of the week at 11.80 pounds fishing from shore with a nightcrawler.
STRIPER
The deluge of DFG trout and Lassen trout plant combined with heavy cloud cover made it the perfect week for striper anglers. Castaic Rock Hard swimbaits, Zplugs, and shaker heads have caught some great striper this week. John Michael Gzerwiec of Carlsbad caught a 15.11 pound striper fishing with a swimbait on the east dam. Dave Schlarman of Murieta caught a 12.73 pound striper fishing from shore with a Lunker Punker. John Coburn caught two striper at 20.33 and 14.44 fishing with Z plugs. David Keene of Hawthorne caught a 14.5 pound striper fishing on the east dam with a swimbait. Eddie "Fish Taco" of Fontana caught a15.5 pound striper fishing with a Rooster Fish. Chris Hugunin caught a 18 pound striper fishing from shore with a silver crappie jig. Matt Dulton of Cherry valley caught a 12.94 pound striper fishing the east dam with an AC minnow. DVL manager Dave Neitzke of Hemet caught five striper at 14.74, 15.22, 9.69, and 9.45 pounds. He was trolling a Zplug at 35 feet along the east dam.
CATFISH
There were some decent catfish caught this week mostly on the west side of the lake. Mackerel or anchovies have been the most reported baits.
PANFISH
There were no panfish reports this week and it will more than likely remain slow until the spring.
LAKE RECORDS
Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.
Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: Mike Long of Poway, 16.43 lb bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
Lake Record Crappie: 3.0 pounds landed by Keith Thomas. He was fishing with shad.
Lake Record Blue Gill: John Arganda, of Menifee, broke the lake pan fish record by bringing in a 3.06 pound blue gill. He got it on a night crawler fishing near the saddle dam.
Lake Record Catfish October 29, 2008: Jason Walsh, of Temecula, caught a 42.56 pound catfish using an LA Slider near the inlet tower.
Lake Record Trout, December 3, 2008: Cesar Cruz of Hemet holds the DVL trout record at 15.06 pounds. He was fishing on the north corner of the east dam with a Thomas Buoyant lure.
