Fish Report for 12-11-2008

East Walker River Fish Report- Open year round for catch and release fishing only.

12-11-2008

Water Conditions:

Water flows have been at rock bottom, 22 CFS as of December 11. This is below minimum flow of 25 CFS. Find the guilty farmer and arrest him!

Water temperature have dropped! Late morning and afternoon fishing will be the best.

Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Good

Cold mornings and slightly warmer afternoons continue to be the order of the day but fishing has been good for 2-3 hours midday.

With the lower winter flow regime now in play there may not be a whole lotta water to fish. Look for the typical deeper slots, holes and runs. A trip into Nevada may be worth it as the ranches do have a bit more water flowing into the river down there?Ķ

Recommended Flies:

Dry Flies:
Not much dry fly action but try fishing dry/droppers with the lower fall flow reg ime. Try adult caddis or hopper dries and caddis emergers, midges or small bwo mayfly patterns below.

Nymphs:
Midges are a really important food source as we go from fall into winter. Keep changing your patterns to find what they want. A good selection of WD-40's #20-24 in black, grey and olive are essential. Zebra Midges, small baetis imitations, flashback emergers.

Streamers: White/ Grey Zonkers and Double Bunny streamers fished on the swing and dead drifted and pulled.Big and ugly is working.

Today we found several nice spots of big fish. They just didn't want to bite for us. We had very large Tuna boiling around the boat many times, but were not lucky enough to hook any of them. Maybe tomorrow will be a different day with the weather getting better by the minute. We will report back. "The Intrepid Team" ...... Read More
