Fish Report for 12-11-2008
Lower Owens River Fish Report
12-11-2008
Water Conditions:
Flows are at 124 cfs as of December 11 and have been for a while.
These flows are excellent for wading. Water temperature getting colder starting in the high 40's them going to the low 50's in the afternoons. Air temperature are in the 60's range. Rain this weekend then cooler.
Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Good
Fishing is good and no crowds. Look for slower water and eddies to find fish, but during the hatches midday the riffles are producing as well.
Decent hatches midday and into the afternoon but the window of feeding is short.
Recommended Flies:
>
Start with skinny midges (or trim those PT's and Hare's Ears down) in the AM as early as 9:30. About 10:30 - 11:00 short and minimal mayfly hatch. Use BWO imitations but its tough followed by a light spinner fall.
After noon try drifting a leech pattern through slower water as we've seen fish with leechas attached ... translated the fish are sitting in very slow moving water.
By 3 PM it is over . . . head for the bar!
