Monitoring Herds For Chronic Wasting Disease

10-8-2019
Nevada Department of Wildlife

There's a lot of news going around about "zombie" deer. To clarify there are no "zombies" running around anywhere😂! The stories are referring to a disease called Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), a neurological disease found in deer and elk that has never been detected in Nevada. We've been monitoring herds in the state for the disease since the 90's, and we continue those efforts. Below is a recent podcast we did about CWD that may answer some of your questions. You can also learn more about what you can do to help prevent the spread of the disease here: http://www.ndow.org/…/Health_and_D…/Chronic_Wasting_Disease/
