Virginia Lakes Fishing Report
8-26-2019
Carolyn Webb
Very nice week weather-wise and a bit warmer than normal for this time of year.
The stock truck arrived Thursday with trout from Black Rock. No fatalities, and the bite is on.
BAIT: Crawlers, gold glitter salmon eggs, and lots of natural bait.
LURES: Buoyant's, small Kastmasters, silver Super Duper's, O silver Mepp's, black Panther Martin/yellow dots, mini jigs, and sniper bait.
FLY AND BUBBLE: Griffith's Gnat, Bi-visible, Mosquito, Grey Hackle Yellow, flying black ant, damsel flies (blue) everywhere. Hatches are going crazy as the evening approaches. I've been out 2 nights in a row and going out again this evening. I've been teaching 4 staff to use a fly and a bubble and they are getting the hang of it and should be ready tonight to bring in trout for a fish fry.
FLY RODS: Fly rodder's are doing ok, but it's the water temperature that's keeping the trout down and hard to keep your sinking line low enough with a nymph or midge at the bottom, but some are managing to do just that, their secret is their flies. Dirty Doc olive, black BH woolly buggers, grey ghosts with small nymph or midges trailing.
