Lake Sabrina Boat Landing Staff
Fishing still has been on the slow side – and we have no idea why – it’s not a full moon, no huge barometer changes – meaning no major storms last week, a full stocking from DFW – guess y’all aren’t holding your tongues right or you got skeeter repellant or sunscreen on your hands or you’re just not using the right bait – whatever that is or maybe it’s just too durn hot. It may be the fact that the sucker fish are hatching and the Trout are feeding on them and don’t forget Trout like skeeters and there have been plenty of those around this year. The items that brought in the big fish this week were Panther Martins, NightCrawlers, Crickets (get them in town before you head up the mountain) and Garlic Pinched NightCrawlers.
Ahh, the wildlife you ask – had a bear trying to get in the dumpster a week ago Monday Night – Rick scared it away with a spotlight and airhorn. There have also been a few sights of mountain lions (yes, plural) down in Aspendell – keep your eyes open!!
Sandie Sallans with some netting help from Roy Carlson brought in a 4-pound along with a few more to make a limit using NightCrawlers. Paul and Ethan Buccat caught a good family dinner limit using Garlic Pinched NightCrawlers. Alan Klinge used a Cricket to bring in a 2-3/4 pounder. Jason (aka Ed) Brown of EdandEdGoFishing.com knows of what he speaks landing a 3-3/8 pounder and 3-3/4 pounder using a Panther Martin for one and a NightCrawler for the other.
It’s a pet peeve of mine that if you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.
So Fall colors, what to say – there are a few Aspen that are starting to turn and some groves are looking a tad bit lighter and NO WE DON’T KNOW WHEN PEAK WILL BE!
